Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland has an international reputation in the field of mathematics and statistics applied in the biological sciences. Established in 1987, BioSS contributes research, consultancy and training to agricultural and biological research organisations in Scotland. We also have growing links with the private sector, offering high-level statistical and mathematical skills to clients.

Introductory Statistics
Although these pages were written for behavioral statistics at Ohio University, they should be useful for anyone taking introductory statistics or in need of basic statistical information. View the animated demonstrations and practice your computational skills by trying the problems.
Virtual Laboratories in Probability and Statistics
The goal of this project is to provide interactive, web-based modules for students and teachers of probability and statistics.
Rice Virtual Lab in Statistics
The Rice Virtual Laboratory in Statistics is an integrated combination of an electronic textbook, simulations/demonstrations, and case studies. The electronic textbook covers basic concepts in statistics and data analysis and contains links to data analysis tools, instructional demonstrations/simulations, and other on-line texts. The simulations and demonstrations help make abstract concepts concrete and allow students to investigate various aspects of statistical tests and distributions. Case studies demonstrate the real-world applicability of statistical methods. Materials are available on the World Wide Web
Explorapedia of Statistical and Mathematical Techniques for use in Research and Technology (SMART) is a collaborative approach to the production and delivery of training in quantitative methods via the World Wide Web. The training is primarily focused on persons with some experience of basic statistical principles who wish to familiarise themselves with one of the newer, or more specialist techniques which they believe may be useful in their work. the section on Sequential Sampling in Seed Testing is especially applicable to the work we do in ISTA. This site also contains a module which describes some of the basic statistical operations when exploring and drawing conclusions from data using Microsoft Excel 97.
The Statistical Education through Problem Solving is a project brought together nine departments in seven universities throughout the UK to develop problem-based teaching and learning materials for statistics. The materials produced are based around specific problems arising in Biology, Business, Geography and Psychology. A glossary of statistical terms is available on the Internet.
The STEPS Glossary is also available from the Centre for Applied Statistics, a department within the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) at Lancaster University.
