ISTA Handbook on Seed Health Testing

This handbook contains descriptions, sketches and photographs describing different techniques for execution of seed health testing for the detection of seed-borne pathogens and pathogens able to be transmitted via seeds. The different techniques described in the handbook are explaining the full process of seed health test execution from sample preparation, seed handling, quality control instructions and result interpretation. This handbook serves as a hands on reference supporting the execution of the methods described in Chapter 7 of the ISTA Rules but also is a helpful guide in setting up a seed health laboratory or a seed health testing program. The techniques described range from classical testing methods as morphological determination by microscopy, to the more high tech testing methods using molecular building blocks.  The book will inspire seed pathologists in how to improve or implement seed health test methods to facilitate the daily work with seed testing.
