FAO United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization The Food and Agriculture Organization was founded in October 1945 with a mandate to raise levels of nutrition and standards of living, to improve agricultural productivity, and to better the condition of rural populations. IPPC International Plant Protection Convention The International Plant Protection Convention is a multilateral treaty deposited with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and administered through the IPPC Secretariat located in FAO's Plant Protection Service. One hundred and eleven (111) governments are currently contracting parties to the IPPC. AGPS Seed and Plant Genetic Resources Service The Service provides technical and policy advice and assistance on plant genetic resources conservation and use, and seed and planting material improvement and production, including seed security. It also supports the FAO Global System on the Conservation and Utilisation of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (PGRFA) and promotes the implementation of the Global Plan of Action for the conservation and sustainable use of PGRFA (GPA). AGPC Crop and Grassland Service The Service provides technical advice to FAO members on increasing sustainable crop and grassland production through crop improvement, development of integrated production systems, rational grassland management and application of biotechnology techniques. AGPP Plant Protection Service The Service promotes environmentally safe and sustainable plant protection actions and systems, with emphasis on international cooperation and sustainable systems that are safe for human health and the environment and do not unduly restrict international trade.
