SHC Questionnaire on minimum recommended sample size [December 2009-February 2010]
Based on a workshop held during 6th ISTA Seed Health Symposium in 2008, it was decided to start a working group on definition of minimum recommended seed sample size for rules of annex of chapter 7.
To define such a sample size, a questionnaire/table has been established for you to indicate us the seed sample size you use for each method, if you use this test in routine, and the minimum seed sample size you would recommend, based on scientific data, experience or local regulation. There could be different sample sizes you use for some methods, in this case, please indicate it in the “comments” column. Please also indicate in the “comments” column why you recommend a minimum seed sample size. To help you fill the questionnaire/table, a second sheet of the file gives the example of GEVES-SNES in France. The proposals made are based on a collaborative discussion between Naktuinbouw, NAK and seed companies in France and the Netherlands. Please feel free even if you are not an ISTA member laboratory to fill in this questionnaire/table, in order for us to gain benefit of their experience.
Thank you in anticipation for sending us the completed file by e-mail to ista.office@ista.ch for end of February 2010.

ISTA Seed Health Committee Official Method Review
As part of the ISTA Method Validation Programme the Seed Health Committee requires that methods approved as Official Methods should be reviewed after 5 years to ensure their continuing effectiveness and suitability. Official Seed Health Testing Methods are found in the International Rules for Seed Testing, Annexe to Chapter 7, Seed Health Testing Methods. There are currently 2 ISTA Official Seed Health Testing Methods that are now due for review, having been approved in 2004 and 2005 (listed in Table 1). We have received no formal request for changes or withdrawal of any of these methods since 2004 (7-019) and 2005 (7-020). The ISTA Seed Health Committee would like to receive feedback as part of the review process.
Table 1. ISTA Official Seed Health Testing Methods to be reviewed in 2009/10
Method No. Pathogen Host

To help us we would be pleased if you could answer the questions in the accompanying questionnaire and return it to the ISTA Secretariat at the address below by31 March 2010, or by email to the ISTA Secretariat. |
